At least six parts of the country experienced temperatures below 10 degrees on Wednesday. The Education Department declared on Tuesday, that schools have to shut down if the daytime temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius. Nonetheless, educational institutions remained open in six parts of the country on Wednesday despite a drop of 10 degrees.
Teachers, students, and parents have expressed their anger about this. Meanwhile, it is reported that the attendance of students has decreased in various districts of the country due to severe winter.
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature fell below 10 degrees Celsius in six districts today. The areas are Bandarban, Chuadanga, Barishal, Ishwardi (Pabna), Sreemangal (Moulvibazar), and Sitakunda (Chittagong).
In response to a question from the media, the Director (Secondary) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Professor Belal Hossain said, "It was clearly stated yesterday under which circumstances educational institutions can be closed. Why the schools have not been closed in the districts even when the temperature is below 10 degrees can be known by the local administration better. We have not received any information regarding this".
Additional Director General of the Department of Primary Education Dr. Uttam Kumar Das told the media that yesterday the ministry clarified under which conditions the school will be closed. District and Divisional Education Officers of those particular districts will decide the rest.
